HALKETT.
A meeting of the Halkett School Committee was neld on Wednesday, July 3rd. Members present—Messrs A. E. Davis (Chairman), A. Calder, J. Brears, T. Geal, G. Henderson, and J. Oakley. A letter was read from the master complaining about the bad attendance of the children. It was decided to put tbe compulsory clause of the Education Act into force. A discussion was held about changing school books, and it was agreed not to make any alteration till after next examination. It was resolved that the Chairman remind the Board of their promises about painting the school; also to see if the Board will give trees to plant on the other part of the school ground. Accounts amounting to £819s were passed for payment. It was resolved that the children have two weeks holidays, commencing from July sth.
