C.W.M.C. RIFLE CLASS v HON. RESERVE CORPS.

On .'Saturday eveninglast the Rifle Class of tbe Christchurch Working Men's Club competed in a match with the Hon. Reserve Corps. The teams comprised thirteen men each. The rifle used was tha Martini-Henry with Morris tube attachment. A large number of members wi( nessed the firing, and keen interest waa shown. The scoring was very good. Lieut. Bridge captained the visiting team, and Mr Scull the Class. The result was a win for the Rifle Class by 27 points. Mr W. Scull made the exceptioual firing of fight successive bull's-eyes. During an interval the President (Mr Garrard) announced the result of the match, and expressed the pleasure it was to the members to have the attendance of the representative team from the Honorary Reserve Corps present that evening. Tbe rifle class had started with twelve members, aud now numbered seventytwo.

Lieut. Bridge thanked the President and members heartily for the manner in which they had been received. He must congratulate the class on doing so well, and highly praised their Captain (Mr Scull) for his excellent scoring. • He was glad they had obtained the Morris tube, as it was a nice way of spending an evening. Hv wished the class every success. Corporal King thanked the class for their reception. He did expect they would be defeated by 100, but the corps was not used to the Morris tube; at the range they could turn the tables on them. He would present the class with a prize value £2 2s to be fired for. Mr T. G. Pascoe would advise the honorary members of Reserve Corps to become honorary members of the Christchurch Working Men's Club. Major Francie, Mr Hibell, and other gentlemen also spoke on the advantages of rifle-shooting, and a most enjoyable evening was brought to a conclusion by the singing of the National Anthem. On Friday evening last twenty-sir members of the CW.M.C. Rifle Class fired in the handicap competition for the Nashelski Cup. The scoring was good. The highest scorers were—Messrs G. Raynor 28 (scr), W. Garrard 27 (scr), F. Robbins 27 (scr), W. Baker 27 (scr), G. Smith 2 25-27. The four 27 scores, being ties, will have to fire for respective places for points.
