NOVEL COMMENCEMENT OF A HONEYMOON.
[from our correspondent.] [By Telegraph from the Bluff.] MELBOURNE, March 20. A sensational incident occurred at about eight o'clock on Saturday night, as the Orient steamer Ormuz was hauling off from the railway pier, pre - paratory to sailing for Sydney. The vessel had moved off a few feet, when a lady and gentleman rushed along the pier calling out to be taken on board. Some sailors on deck quickly threw to them the end of a heaving line. Both the intending passen gers took hold and held on tightly, the sailors meanwhile hauling them up the side as they dangled over the sea. All went well for a while, when suddenly, just as the gentleman and his wife touched the rail and were about to be drawn in, both lost their hold and fell* into the water, the lady proving to be a good swimmer, struck out boldly. Her husband could also swim, and some men in charge of a boat near at hand seeing what had occurred, pulled quickly to the spot and saved those who had fallen in. They missed their passage and the lady has suffered somewhat from the shock. The couple proved to be newly married, and were proceeding to Sydney on their honeymoon trip.
