A SHOCKING TRAGEDY.
o> [from ottr correspondent.] (By Telegraph from the Bluff.) SYDNEY, March 19. Intelligence from Coraki states that on Tuesday last week a murderous assault was made on Mr Farquhar McLennon, an old resident of Codrington, by a tenant of bis named James Grady, armed with a case knife. Grady proceeded to the residence of Mr McLennan. After the exchange of a few friendly words, McLennan gave the chair he was sitting on to Grady, and was in the act of turhing to get another when he was struck over the head from behind by Grady with the caseknife, which inflicted a dangerous wound. On McLennan turning round Grady again went at him with the knife, and inflicted several other cuts, causing the blood to flow freely. A struggle ensued, in which the handle of the knife was broken. After endeavoring to trip up McLennan into the fireplace Grady decamped. The cries of MoLennan brought a man named Maher to his assistance, and after further aid had been procured, Dr. Connor, of Coraki, was sent for. He found McLennan very weak from losf of blood, and he sewed up the wounds. At once the police were communicated with, and a search was made for Grady. It was not until nine o'clock on Thursday morning that any trace of him was seen. Inspector Casey, of Grafton, discovered his body floating in the river opposite Mclennan's house. A? magisterial enquiry was held, when a verdict was returned that Grady's death was caused by drowning, which was his own act. McLennan, is slowly recovering.
