AUCKLAND NOTES.
[By Telegraph.] [from otjr correspondent.] AUCKLAND, March 6. At a meeting of the Committee of. the Auckland Racing Club this afternoon Mr Stead's letter relative to changing the dates of the A.R.C. Spring Meeting and Canterbury Summer Meeting was considered and discussed. It", was agreed to send a reply the Committee could not see their way clear to alter the date of the Spring Meeting. The general opinion of the mem ers was that our gathering was purely a local one and the prize-* were not sufficient to attract outside entries; in addition, the Club would be giving up a public holiday on the 9th November, which would be quickly availed of by oue of the suburban clubs here. There was a lot of surprises thia morning when it was found Hilda's name was missing from the Hawke's Bay Cup final payments. Of course she will not be taken down now. Mr Percival is raising private subscriptions to being Major Walmsiey's remains over from Adelaide, and to have his remains interred here with headstone and railing erected round the grave. The Auckland R. C. Committee to-day decided to defer the matter of the bookmakers laying totalisator odds at Takapuna, with a view of taking combined action with other Metropolitan Ciuba to stop the practice.
