WANGANUI RACES.
[from our special reporter.] WANGANUI, March 6. The weather is fine. There are visitors from all parts of the colony, and the meeting promises to be a great success. This morning Cutts sent Chudleigh a mile fast, by himself. Dudu and Cynisca were jumped off and ran three-quarters at a strong pace, the Cup mare going another mile by herself; all three look well. Butler sent Manton a three-mile sweat in company with Ahua. The latter galloped with great freedom, but the Derby colt went very badly. He put in a mile and a-quarter this afternoon, and seemed to go better. George Hope sent Lady Norah once round slow, on the course proper, and put Quadrant along with her for about three quarters of a mile, the mare striding along in good style. The Cup mare is very fresh, bu has done good work since Hawera, and will make a bold bid for victory. Patchwork ran once round at btst pace. Albert Lyford associated Rosa Bonheur with Forester, after the former had gone once round slow. Th a filly is not as sore as she was. McCormick got a solid gallop out of Strenuous, who was supposed to be amiss. Prudence did a mile in decent time. Leith, who has got over hi* soreness, went in good form once round. Camomile did two rounds strong, and Maribyrnong did a good striding two miles, Rufus a fact once round. Recluse arrived this morning looking well. Masthead, who has a bad knee and is said to be in queer street, only walked. Lady Florin put in two rounds in good style, and in appearance is as fit as any thine here. Mangahone and Kangaroo worked together, the latter going best. Armourer, Blue Bell and Gerinaine did steady exercise. Shillelagh is a bib sore, but otherwise well. Oddfellow did once round strong. Reputation and Chemist will be absentees. Foxton seems a bit jaded after his Nelson trip. Leopold did a satisfactory gallop on the course the other morning, and his party are sanguine of success. My opinion is that the final issue will be fought out between him and Lady Norah, and I incline to the chances of the mare, Recluse third. Ahua should win the Hurdles, Jubilee and Maribyrnong next best. Cynisca will have most bo fear from Leith in the Two-Year-Old Stakes, and Quadrant should fill the vacantplace. Foxton should be about in the Welter, Miribyrnong a good outsider. For the Flyi-g I fancy Recluse or Lady Florin. Mtnton will have a fit horse to meet in Recluse in the Derby, but should pull through. Following is the latest betting :— WANGANUI CUP. 6 to 4 agst Leopold 2 — 1 Lady Norah 3tol —— Rbcluse 3 to 1 Lady Florin The others are friendless.
