Assays hare been made .by the Bank of New Zealand of the recent tin discoveries on Stewart's Island by Mr Robertson, which are quite distinct from those with which Professor Slack ia aaaociated. A sa pie of undressed ore gave a button of 30 grains, representing a yield pf 80 per cent, of tin. A sample of the same ore, well dressed, gave a button of 66 grains, representing 6tJ per cent, of tin. These compare farorably with fifteen samples assayed in New South WaleaThe ore from which they were taken also contained what would be considered aa excellent prospect of scaly goW. oth«» minerals being chiefly .titaniferoua iron, with numerous small garnets.
