LINWOOD TOWN BOARD.

A special meeting of the Board waft held oa Tuesday evening at 7.15 p.m» Present—Commissioners Dombrain, At* kinaon, Jameson, W. Smith, and Bergh, An apology was received for the absence of the Chairman on account of illness in hi 3 family. Mr Bergh was elected Chair* man of the meeting. The formal resolution adopting the Local Bodies Loans Act, 1886, was confirmed. The ordinary meeting was then held. Present—Commie* sioners Bergh, D>mbrain, Jameson, WSmith, and Goodman. The following letters were received:—From Mr BL Dillon, notifying the sale of his property. Received. From a ratepayer, asking for further time to pay his rates. Beceived. From the Property Tax Commissioner, forwarding the assessment rolL To be acknowledged. The Finance Committee reported:—" The Government Insurance Department has replied to thia Board's letter, stating that a loan can. probably be obtained at 5 per cent, per annum. In a further letter it is suggested that an application form for a loan|be filled up as far as possible at present, In order that the advisableness of granting a loan may be considered, and the Committee recommends that this be done. The Committee also suggests that a circular be sent to each ratepayer affected by the proposed loan setting forth' the Board's proposals, &c, in order that they may be fully informed thereof before, the public meeting is called to consider them. Receipts since last meeting, -662 Sβ lOd J debtor balance at Bank, £ol 18d 2d; cash in hand, £917s 6d. Sundryaccounts were presented for payment. Resolved—That the Finance Committee draw up a circular and issue it to the ratepayers. Resolved— That the Chairman be authorised to fill up and send an application form. The report was adopted. Kesolved—That the Finance Committee be empowered to take all steps provided for in the Local Bodies Loans Act, 1886, necessary to raise a loan of £8500, to be expended in concrete chaa* nelling, &a, the proposed loan to be raised on the security of a special rate to be levied on all properties having frontages on to the proposed works. The Works Committee reported that the pipes leading the storm water from Stanmore road to the river was found to be so filled with roots that it was impossible to clean them, the Committee therefore gave Instructions to have a connection made with the old Stormwater drain, which has been done. It j. is also recommended that the 9-inch pipe \ across the Canal Reserve be taken up and a 12-inch pipe laid instead. The report i was adopted. The Board then sat as the Local Board of Health.
