THE BARQUE WEATHERSFIELD.
Many of our readers will, doubtless, remember the stranding of the barque Weathersneld on the beach near Otaki in April of last year. It was thought at the time she grounded, and indeed it is still thought probable, that if the proper appliances could be procured there would be very little difficulty in getting the vessel off the beach, and towed safely to some port where she could get the necessary repairs to enable her to again be placed in commission. With this object in view, her owners have for the past months kept control of the barque, and have been endeavoring to get her off the sand. Only moderate success has been met with, and on Friday last she was formally handed over to the underwriters. Captain Sherris, commander of the vessel, who has been superintending the work on the beach, was a passenger by the R.M. s.s. Ruapehu, which left port yesterday for London.
