ADELAIDE, January 17,

A railway accident occurred near Farina, South Australia, last Sunday evening. A strong wind, which was blowing, detained a repairing train which was going to Farina, and the atatiohmaster allowed the Adelaide train to leave there for Hergott. The consequence was that a collision occurred between the two trains two miles and a quarter from Farina. The Adelaide train was a heavy one, while the repairing tram consisted of a long line of empty trucks, -Jour being in front of the engine and the rest behind. Two of the front trucks had a number of navvies in them. There are curves from both sides, and the drivers of the trains did not see one another. Whistling was heard by the passengers, and then came a crash, -Shouts were heard •• Jump put for your lives." Some of the passengers scrambled out! of the windows, and one man's arm was dislocated. The engine was thrown off the line, but no damage was done to the Adelaide train.. The repairing train fared worse.- Seeing the train coming the navvies in the nrst two trucks jumped for their lives,' and some of them. were severely bruised. Two were asleep. The first .'truck, on striking the Adelaide engine, was splintered in atoms, and shot off down the eastern embankment. The second was also badly smashed, and was thrown up on end, remaining in that position against the front of the Adelaide train. One poor fellow who was asleep in the first truck,, was thrown down the eastern embankment, and was found underneath the shattered debris unconscious. The Adelaide train was full of passengers, and but for the excellent judgment of the engine-driver, serious loss of life might have - ensued. He and the stoker did not fcjump out until they saw the navvies jumping from, the repairing trucks, and they knew that a collision was inevitable.
