EARTHQUAKE.

TO THC KDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir,—Residents in Cast felt a very sharp shock of earthquake at 11.30 p.m. on Thursday last; ana some surprise has been expressed that there has been no reference to It in the newspapers. It was the sharpest that has been felt in this neighborhood for years, with the probable exception of the shock which injured the Cathedral spire on September Ist. Bat the earthquake of last Thursday night had a peculiarity of its own. It was not felt as an oscillation of the usual kind, nor was it preceded by the rumbling with which we are now familiar. It was of the nature of a sudden and violent blow, j dealt twice or thrice, with a loud noise. The blows seemed to come from beneath us, and houses must hare reeled after them, if I may jndge from my own. I fancy clerical testimony is a little discounted by some of your correspondents, so I shall await contradiction in detail with a serene spirit. _ E. H. Wtatt. Parsonage, Cost, November s*th.
