THE PACIFIC CABLE.

■ [per press association.] Received November 21th, 1.30 p.mLondon, November 23. In the course of a speech at a meeting to promote the Pacific cable Lord Winchelsea said the present cable service was neither efficient, continuous or cheap, whilst it was exposed to danger in the event of war. The proposed Pacific cable would meet the requirements of British trade, and the land line in connection therewith would run through British territory. The colonies were favorable to the scheme, even New South Wales and Victoria were in accord on this question.
