DAMAGE TO THE CATHEDEAL , ( fOW_E. At *_j min—es past 4 o'clock this morning one of the save-—st shocks of earthquake ever experienced here occu—ed. The vibrations lasted for several seconds, and were of a very severe character. The Cathedral bells were set tolling, and continued to ring for several ruinutes. We regret to state that the spire has suffered severe damage, the extent of which cannot, at the time of writing, be ascertained. The top, however, baa fallen to the ground, and the stones are lying all over the square, the largest quantity apparently having fallen in a north- j westerly direction.
