WOULD-BE ALDERMEN.
[PBESS ASSOCIATION TBLEGEAM.]
WELLINGTON, November 5. The Mayor of "Wellington suggested to the Premier this morning that the Municipal Corporations Act should be amended so as to provide that members of the Auckland, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch and Dunedin Councils should be styled Aldermen, iustead of Councillors. His Worship pointed out that the Councils mentioned were distinguished in. the Act from other municipal bodies in the colony, inasmuch they were designated City Councils, whereas others were known as Borough Councils. His Worship explained that the subject had been discussed by the Conference, out it was the opinion of many of the delegates that the members of the Auckland, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch and Dunedin Councils should be styled Aldermen. The Premier, in reply, said that the request was not an unreasonable one, and he would be most happy to support an amendment of the Act in the direction referred to.
