WRECK OF THE S.B. TAIHORA.
A telegram was received is ChristchurcK yesterday afternoen stating that the We&f a»ra had struck on a reef in Bass , Strait* in the vicinity of the Eddystone Point. The steamer had been beached on Swain Island* land n» Uvea were lost. The Waihora left this port on Tuesday, the 6th; for Hbbart and Melbourne via the Sorstii. i

MELBOURNE, February 18.
News is to hand from the cable etation at Low Heads, Tasmania, that the Union Company's s S. Waihora, while on ft voyage from Hobart to Melbourne, .struck on the. Eddyetene Book, a point at the extreme north-east of Tasmania, at 3 p.m. yesterday. The vessel prooeeded some distance: after striking 1 , bnt the Tasmaniaa Steam Navigation Company's b.s. Southern Cross coming alongside, and the water gaining: fast in the forehold of the Waihora* it was; decided to beach her on S wan Island, Banks; Straits, which was accordingly done. The: crew and passengers were BaJely landed on Swan Island, The passengers were afterwards transferred by the Southern Cross to Low Heads, whence they will be picked ; up and brought to Melbourne by the b.b. Flinders to-morrow. Beoetvod February 18th, 11 p.m. MELBOURNE, February 18. Advices regarding the Waihora state that the vessel has settled down on the; sind about a hundred yards distant from; the shore. Strenuous exertions are being made by the officers and crew to. save the horses. The weather continues favorable, and hopes are entertained that the live stock will be safely got ashore. The: eteamer Etherole and the tug Troucan! have been despatched with pumps to Swan: Island. It has been arranged that the' Southern Cross shall bring on the Waihora's passengers to Melbourne. | I
