ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

Ihe annual meeting of the Canterbury) Acclimatisation Society was held at Warner's Hotel last night. The Hon. J. TV Peacock occupied the chair. There was not a large attendance of members. < The balance-sheet showed that the receipts amounted to £608 19a, including a. small stun in hand at-the ■cominaneemetgg of the year. The business of the annual meeting having been concluded, the Council met and elected Hon. J.T. Peaceck President, Dr. Frankish and Mr F. JF. Bambell VicePreiidents, and Mr 8. C. " Dr. iTBAMKisH moved—"That m the opinion of this Council it is desirable that during the next session of Parliament the Chairman should use his best endeavors to provide the passage of a Bill through Parliament to enable the Society to charge for admusion to the gardens, with a view of providing funds for establishing an aquarium and obtaining a collection of birds and animals. .... *.
