PRESENTATION TO MR BACK.
' Last night the employes of the several departments in the Cihnstchurch section of the New Zealand Kailwaya met in the Accountant's offiod at the Bailway Station for the purpose of presenting Mr F. Back, late Traffic Manager, with a memento of I their regard and friendship. Mr Burnett, ! engineer, occupied the chair. An address, as follows, was presented byMr Bradley :— " To Fred. Back, Esq.—While congratulating you on your appointment as General Manager of the Taem&nian Kail ways, we cannot refrain from expressing our sincere regret in parting from you During the many year* you have so ably carried out the duties of Traffic Manager of this eeciion of the New Zealand railways we, your fellow-officers and those working under your directions, have ever found you to be kind, considerate, and just, and those of us who have known you in your private capacity have always found in yon a true and steadfast friend. We sincerely hope that in your mew sphere of duty you may enjoy a long life of happiness and prosperity. We trust that yon will accept the accompanying pone of sovereigns, as a slight token of tne esteem in which you are held by the staff of this section. Signed onlbehalf of the Traffic, jbocomotive, Maintenance and Cashier Departments." . Mr Back appropriately and kindly acknowledged the gift, after which he was made the recipient of a handsome silver inkstand, suitably inscribed, which was presented to him on behalf of the guards by Mr Fowket He happily acknowledged this gift also, and the proceedings terminated with cheers. ~ I
