Baddeley, Esq.; B.M.] ; BBSAKme thb Sabbath.—John Bull, who had driven a load of furniture through Ashburton on a Sunday, was charged with having worked at his calling in a public place on the Sabbath, and fined 6s and costs. : Vagbanot.—James Harris and William Hill, two feeble old men, were ordered to be detained at the Asbbnrton Gaol for one month, there being "no room for them in the Old Men's Home.
; Tkbbatbsino LAKatrAQß.—Alan Macpherson was charged with using threatening language towards Charles Harding. Mr Caygill appeared for Harding, and Mr Purnell for defendant. Harding and Mao. pherson are boundary riders on the Longbeach and Coldstream estates respectively, and the alleged offence arose out of a dog fight. Macpherson's dog attacked the dog belonging to Harding, some words arose, and Macpherson threatened to take Balding's lite. Evidence having been taken, the information was dismissed. Assaulting a Bailht.—Samuel Elliott was charged with assaulting A. M. Pearton, the Bailiff of the B. M. Court. Under a distraint warrant Pearson had attempted to seize a horse and cart, when defendant assaulted him. A fine of JBS and costs was imposed. The fine was paid.
