The monthly meeting was held on June Ist, 1885. Present—Mr Elder (Chairman), "Bailey, Evans, Hopkins, and Pashby. The outward correspondence was read and approved. The Surveyor's report waa read and adopted. Letters were read—From the Selwyn County Council, asking for information in regard to the small birds nuisance; also, as to the desirability of requesting the Government to prevent stoats,' weasels, and other gronnd vermin beingturnedlooeeinthe Canterbury district. The Clerk was directed to state, in reply, that it would be very objectionable to introduce any more gronnd vermin. J. E. March, enclosing a statement of receipts and expenditure for 1884-5 on Hospital and Charitable Aid. Avon Boad Board, requesting to be informed what agreement existe between the Board and the tenant of the cottage, at White's Bridge; also requesting this Board to hand over the cottage : untenanted to the Avon Boad Board. The Clerk was directed to state this Board was willing to hand over the control of the cottage, provided the Avon Boad Beard would • undertake the care and repairs to the bridgeas this Board have done hitherto. Commissioner of Crown Lands, requesting to be informed if any planting had been done since June, 1884. The Clerk stated the letter had been answered. Mr James Gray complained of the ditch being blocked up in continuation of the one through his land along the north side of the Eyre bank, which caused hie land to be flooded. Mr Hopkins proposed and Mr Evans seconded, that Mr Bafley and the Surveyor see the owner of the land and request him to have ditch complained of cleaned out. Carried. Mr Bobert Bice agreed to pay half the cost of deepening Qreig's road drain and concrete culvert if the work was let at once, which was agreed to. The question of gone growing on the roads was then considered, and the Board agreed to compel all owners of land to stab and clear the goTse growing os the roads fronting their land, and it was pointed out that there were several roads had gone growing on them where no gorse hedge was fronting the road. Winter be requested to aot for Swannanoa, Mesace Bailey and Thomas Giles for Eyreton, Messrs J. Clothier and Rich for Kaiapoi Island, and Mr John Merrin fer Kaiapoi Island south." Carried. The Surveyor waa directed to h*.ve the roadside drains ; cleaned at the expense of the occupiers of the land fronting same, where the notices served have not been complied with within the stipulated time. Also to invite tenders tor clearing watercress and ween* growing so as to back the water from the main drain to Hassell's ford, and see if the willows planted at HaeaeU's ford are outside of private lands, if bo to give the parties planting name notice to have them removed, and in the event of them not doing so to have the willows removed asd charge the parties planting them with the cost.
