'The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Monday, Ist instant. Present— The Chairman and all the members. The members that -were appointed to inspect and report on Nalder's road recommended as the road was in fai* condition that the Board pay Mr F. Spencer the disputed balance pf his contract, viz., £2. : It was also, agreed to let Mr Spencer the contract £05 keeping, in repair the same road for theiensuing-year. Messrs Daly and Hunt saw- the Board relative to a culvert on the Office road. The members inspected and found that the culvert wss as low as could possibly be put to be of advantage. It was resolved that, the: Surveyor , should have the bad places -on Lower Styx road made passable without delay. Mr Hole to Be asked to pay half the cost, upon his doing bo the Board would form the. road from the present formation to his gate. The Surveyor's report was .read and the following resolutions were passed:— Be . Messrs Tisch and Leathwick's petition. It was decided to pnt in box culverts instead of pipee. The Surveyor to inspect North road re quality of shingle being used by the contractor, also to inspect Bligh's road re pipes Tjeing choked up, causing rain .water to flood nursery. The Surveyor to have Delamain's road repaired; also Bottle Lake road, about twenty chains; have sand removed from in front of New Brighton Hotel; Craddock's drain to be cleared out, also drain on Oreen's road, opposite Mt Maher's, and to give Mr Larson notice to cut willows on the road'adjoining the river Avon. Mr Webster to be instructed to proceed with survey from Briggs* road to Shirley road. Correspondence was read:—From Mr E. W. Wilson, complain- ! ing of the state of, drain opposite hie land on North road. Proposed by Mr Philpott, seconded by Mr Cochrane— " That if the < Surveyor be satisfied with what has been done by the contractor, that the matter be deferred for the present." From City Council, asking the Board to straighten road on reserve 209. It-was agreed that Mr Cochrane and the Surveyor should inspect and report. It was resolved that the Surveyor , reply that this Board consider it is no part of their duty to interfere with the said drain, looking on the matter as belonging to the Drainage Board. From the same recollecting rates for the Avon drainage district. The Clerk to reply that the Board having been misinformed before could sow see its way to collect tie rates at SJ par cent. From the same re disposal of spare soil out of Preston's drain. It was agreed that the same may be spread evenly along aide of the toad, and it will be necessary for the Drainage Board to have the drain securely fenced, as ite present condition is unsafe for the public traffic. From St. Albans Borough Council re payment of account rendered for maintenance of boundary cheque. Fran County Council, requesting information in connection with small birds nuisance, the Clerk to ascertain all particulars, and forward same to Council. Applications were made re remittance of rates; The Boarddeeided not to grant the requests, but to let the matter stand over for a time. It was agreed to allow Mr Barker to remove s few loads of clay on New Brighton road, after having placed the usual deposit with the Surveyor. After some discussion, it was resolved, as the clay was getting very scarce in that part of the district, that toe Board do not allow another permit.
