EAST MALVERN
The monthly meeting of this Board was held at the office on Tuesday. Presents— Messrs Barr, Treeaider, Jebson andMinchin. The Beturning-Officer reported tho election of Mr Minchin to nil the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr Bossiter. Correspondence read—From Austin and Kirk, saying the Public Works Department would erect a bridge over the river Hawkins, providing the Board would give access to it by making roads. The Clerk wa3 instructed to write to the Public Works Department and ascertain further particulars. From G. A. Keys, about renting plantation reserve. Board had no power to let the ground, but considered it would be advisable to have the grass fed off with sheep before the planting season. Petition was received asking the Board to grant reserve 1347, situate at Axmat, for a school cite. After a very warm discussion, it was proposed by Mr Treesider, and seconded by Mr Barr-—" That the Board agree to allow reserve 1847 to be used as a school cite." An amendment was moved by Mr Jobson, and seconded by Mr Minchin—" That the Board do not recommend the whole of tfiS reserve as a school site until farther in" formation be obtained on the subject." Mr Barr said the amendment was only meant as a shuffle to retard the erection of a school at Annat. Mr Jebson said tho resolution aimed at alienating the reserve from its original purpose ( before the sub ject could be properly ventilated. The amendment was put and lost. The motion was put and carried by the casting vote of' the Chairman. From J. Fergasson, asking the Board to erect a culvert over the water-race above his place. Clerk to report upon the necessity of the work. Mr? Minchin moved—"That the Board ask for permission to remove one of the immigrant cottages at Waddington to the offloo buildings to serve as a waiting and refreshment room when the large room waa used for public purposes." Agreed to. The Pound-keeper attended with his books made up to the end of the year. They were considered satisfactory. Besolvea that a reduction be made for the use of the publio room on behalf of Wesleyan tea meeting and the concert in aid of the annual sports. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to J842 13a 4a.
