WAIMAKARIRI BOARD OF CONSERVATORS.
The South Waimakariri Board of Conservators met yesterday at 2.80. Present— Jfeasrs P. Jones (Chairman), W. Attwdod, H. W. Peryman, B. M. Taylor, H. Crooks, aodS. Wilson. Correspondence was read from the Bailway Department, in answer to a request from the Board to the Government that means of communication might be found for the settlers on the island near Stewart's
Gully, to the effect that the matter of a traffic bridge over the river there *»c considered. '■■ to the amount of £36 2b lid w*re passed for payment. ....--... The Overseer reported the in a satisfactory condition. The Finance Committee reported that the new debentures of ,£6OO each, required for the renewal from December 9th last had been issued. Aβ the "special" poEtion of the district waa abolished, they recommended the Boaid to make the late flpecial district class 1 and the rest of the disteict class 2, and a description of such districts would be laid before the Board. Hie Committee also submitted estimates for the fifteen months ending 31st March,
1886, showing a deficiency amounting to J53583 18b 7a. As, however, there was
already an overdraft of JBIOQO, and the , estimates were for fifteen months instead of a year, the Committee recommended a xate of 7-64ths ot a penny in class 1, and 4-64thB of a penny in class 2, which would yield a total of J83185 8a 8d instead of J8868313e7d.
The Chaxbkah explained that class 11 -would include lands exposed to great ac-, toal and, class 2, lands exposed to less actual damage. ~ Mr B. M. Tatlob was prepared to oppose any increase of rates, which were already v ; Mr H. W. Pebtkam gave notice to move —"That the following rates be levied fpr the year ending diet March, 1886, viz., on dags 1,7-64ths of a penny in the Jβ, and on Ctoge2,4-64th8.*' The Chaibhan read the description of the lands as classified, and it was adopted l»y the Board. *— Mr B, M. Taxlob gave notice of motion to the Finance Committee to ascertain if it were possible to obtain cheaper offices. Some detail business was referred to the Works Committee, and the Board adjourned. ■.•- . ■'_. '. . ' .
