MAYORAL ELECTIONS.

LYTTELTON.

The election of Mayor of Lyttelton took place yesterday. On the evening previous the candidates, Messrs B. Weyburne and S. R. Webb, explained their views on the various local matters to a numerous audience in the Colonists' Hall, presided over by Mr Harry AUwright, the outgoing Mayor. The election excited no very great amount of interest. One or two vehicles for the use of voters were provided, and conveyed to the poll a good number of ratepayers, who otherwise would probably have found scarcely enough attraction there to exercise their so-called ** inestimable privilege." Shortly after the poll had" closed the returning officer, Mr Fred Gibson, put an end to the hopes and doubts of the burgesses by announcing the result of the poll to be—

The Mayoral election resulted in the return of Mr John Kingsland, the numbers being— Kingsland 249 J. L. McDonald 213 There was considerable excitement towards the close. Only about two-thirds of the electors voted. ; WELLINGTON, November 29. The contest for the Mayoralty to-day resulted in the re-election of Mr G. Fisher by a majority of 620.
