THE WESLEYAN CHURCH.
On Sunday last sermons inconnection with the Weedon Sunday school were preached by the Rev. Mr Standage, of Ashburton, to crowded congregations. On Tuesday the usual tea meeting was held. The tables were presided Over by Mesdames Jones, Hight, and the Misses Hay, Currah, and Watson. There was a very large attend-* ance, the tables being crowded four times. The church was too small to accommodate all at the public meeting. Addresses were given by Mr J. Seatree, Jones, Lawry,- and Mr Guy; the Rev. J. S. Smalley being in the chair. The children sang some favorite melodies very nicely under the leadership of Mr Thomas. Mrs Smalley presided at the American organ. The proceeds amounted to nearly JBIS. At the Tai Tapu Wesleyan Church last Thursday, a service of song, entitled " Uncle Tom's Cabin," was given by the choir of the church, under the able leadership of Mr Tanner. There was a crowded attendance. The Rev. J-S. Smalley gave the connective readings. The affair went off with considerable eclat, and the interest was sustained to the end. At the close of the proceedings Mr- H. W. Perymanj stepped forward, and in the name of the j trustees presented Mr Tanner with a silver-mounted ebony baton, and, in the name: of the" congreg-tion, with a ▼e — F handsome marble timepiece, in recognition of Mr Tanner's valuable services. cessful entertainment was given, consisting of a service of song, entitled "Uncle Tom's Cabin," by the Tai Tapu choir, under Mr Tanner, with" connective readings by the Rev. J. S. Smalley. The large church was well filled by a most appreciative audience. The proceeds were nearly JE6 in aid of circuit funds.
