SPRINGS.

A meeting of the Springs Boad Board was held at Springston on Tuesday, 26th April. Present —Mr Gammaok (ohairman) and Messrs Herrick, Hurst, Marshall, and Tod. The Chairman reported that, accompanied by Messrs Herriok and Tod and the late ohairman of the Board, he had waited on the Lincoln Board by appointment on the 7th inst. respecting " the boundary roads, 1880, account," and that, after a lengthened disoussion, had submitted to the Lincoln Board a proposition whioh it was considered would facilitate the settlement of the account, which proposition the Linooln Board were to consider at thei? meeting on the sth May. The Board approved the action taken by the chairman and deputation. In connection with the above matter it was proposed by Mr Herriok, and seconded by Mr Hurst, and carried—

" That the thanks of the Board be conveyed to the Bey. A. P. O'Gallaghan for hie ready compliance with the requeet of this Board to attend the deputation at their interview with the Lincoln Board on the 7th met, more especially as it is known to several members of the Board that suoh attendance was given at considerable personal inconvenience." The Chairman reported that, in conformity with a minute passed last Board day, he had received and opened tenders for widening and deepening drain on Goodrick's road, and had accepted the tender of James Eedden at 6t 10|d per chain. The Board approved the chairman's action. The surveyor reported that the contractor, whose tender for metalling Swamp road was accepted last Board day, hod not attended to sign his contract, and the Board gave instructions for re-letting the work. The surveyor also reported that in oonsequence of the seriou* aature of some sand holes in Maddison'a road, he had anticipated instructions from the Board, and had called for tenders returnable that day for cutting a ditch and delivering clay. The Board approved of the surveyor's action, and opened the tenders, accepting that of R. MoMeekan at 5s 5d per chain. The following correspondence was read:—From Mr John McDonald, asking that the surveyor should be directed to make a special isspeotion of Andrews' acd Carter's drainti, accompanied by himself and other residents in the neighbourhood. From Mr 0. Downham, respecting the drainage of his land. It was resolved that Messrs Herrick, Hurst and Marshall, attended by the surveyor, should inspect the drains complained of by Messrs McDonald and Downham. From the Bey. A. P. O'Callaghan, asking the Board to make application for crossings on the Akaroa branoh railway. The surveyor stated that he had taken the necessary steps in the matter. Mr O'Callaghan further applied for repairs on Lake road, and for the formation and metalling of a road to the railway station on Lake flat. The surveyor was direoted to have Lake road repaired, and to inspect and report on the new road on Lake Sat. From the Manawatu County Council, a circular asking the Board's cooperation in bringing influence to bear on members of Parliament to compel Government to assist losal bodies in opening up country, by subsidy, land fund or endowment. The clerk was direoted to acknowledge the receipt of the circular with thanks. From Mr Levi Lowe, complaining of gorse on the road near his house. The clerk stated that he had posted notices to the occupiers of the land on either side of the road to clear the gorse. In view of the frequent complaints of the aeglect of occupiers of li.nd to clear the gorse off the publio rodde which bound their occupations, the clerk was directed to serve notices on all persons so neglecting, and to intimate that it is the Board's intention to proceed under the 98th olause of the Publio Works Act, 1876, against! all persons persisting in suoh neglect. The survey ox's report was read and considered, and instructions were given to back up the pitch of the crown on Greenpark road; to put in a 12in pipe culvert on Bllesmere Junction road ; to"eeesMr H. Pannett respecting a culvert on Day's road; to arrange for the disposal of stuff out of the drain on Goodrick's road (MoCaw'e contract); and to call for tenders, returnable next Board day, for filling up sand holes on roads nesr Gallagher's. i Accounts were passed for payment to the amount of £215 Sβ 4d, and the Board adjourned till Tuesday, 31st May.
