KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL
The fortnightly meeting of thie Council was held on Tuesday evening. Present — The Mayor (IS. t Black well), Ore. Moore, Pinching, May, Fraeer, Mathews, Woodford, Stanton, and Monk. A letter was read from Inspector Buckley, acknowledging receipt of request from the Council that persons using unaufchoraed crossings orer footpaths should be summoned. Or. Moore, chairman works committee, reported that the footpaths from swing bridge to railway station, if kerbed with wood and asphalted, would cost about £102. The cost of forming, including concrete kerbing, would be about £80, if done the full width of 10ft, but if only done a width of sft, including kerbing, would cost £53. The cost of formation with ebingle and wood kerbicg would be £32. The committee recommended the Council to concrete the path half the width. The contract for the tool house was completed. Baven quay had been repaired, about 10ft of 6in pipes had been put in at corner of Peraki street and Ohoka road, and van-us footpaths had been repaired during the fortnight. J. Linklater's contract for lamps had been completed. Cr. Fraeer, chairman finance committee, reported the rates received amounted to £14 6s. The present credit balances were —general account, £160 9s 9 J ; bridge, £56 17s lid; cemetery, £49 4s 3d. The town clerk reported that ihe conveyance of the gift of land situate on Sewell street, made to the Council by Mr J. S. White, had been duly completed. A vote of thanks was recorded to Mr White for the same. Accounts £31 lie 3d were passed. The Mayor reported the position of affaire relative to the settlement of an account due to Dobson and Son. It was decided that the balance £12 s«Bd be paid. On the question of the adoption of the works committee's report relative to the North road footpath, a long discussion took place, till finally it was decided to adopt the report, this being carried on the casting vote of the Mayor, the motions by Cr. Smith to form, clay, gravel and kerb with timber, and by Cr. Woodford that only the concrete kerbing be done, being lost. It was decided to invite tenders to be sent in by next meeting. It was resolved that the clerk write to Mr C. Oram relative to the removal of a dilapidated tenement, his property, on Charles street. After passing some routine business the Council then adjourned.
