[retjter's telegrams.] MELBOURNE, October 27. Arrived—Arawata, from the Bluff. Mr Berry introduced his Budget in the Assembly last night. The Budget showed that the revenue for the past financial year amounted to £4,673,000, being £654,000 below the estimate. The expenditure for the year was £5,063,000, and the actual deficiency at the close of the year was £390,000, exclusive of £200,000 due on the railway liquidation account. The revenue shows the greatest decrease in the Customs, inland public and postal service. Mr Berry estimates the revenue for the current financial year at £4,910,000, and the expenditure at £5,130,000. He proposea new taxes on grain and maize of sixpence to one shilling per cental, yielding £18,000; on oils sixpence per ' gallon, yielding £10,500; on beer twopence per gallon, yielding £60,000; on imported tobacco two to three shillings per pound, yielding £18,000; and on colonial tobacco one shilling per pound, yielding £15,000. These new taxes, including the revenue from land sales, are expected to realise £156,000. October 27. The following horses have been scratched for the Melbourne Cup: — Columbus, Geraldine, and Stag. In the Legislative Assembly Mr Service made severe attacks on the Hon. Mr Berry for the appointment of his soia to a position in the Civil Service from which he had been removed by the Service Ministry, the same being much cemmented upon. KING GEORGE'S SOUND, Oct. 27. Arrived ; —P. and O. Co.'c steamer Rosetta, from Galle, with the inward Suez mail, which left London on September 24th.
