[Before Mr F. Guinness, R.M.] Thrashing a Popil.—Wm. Hale, schoolmaster, South Rakaia, was charged with assaulting and beating Mary McCoy, one of his school ohildren. The girl had been talk* ing in school, and accused beat her with a stick. The magistrate said that there had been no evidence to prove that the girl had been cruelly punished. He had seen the child's back, and must say that it was much bruised. The case was dismissed, with a caution to defendant to control his temper when punishing a child. Miso_c_utboits.—A. Orr, for being the owner of one unregistered dog, was fined 20s and costs. P. Malley and W. Doherty were fined 5s a head for cattle wandering at large. J. Mann and Chas.
