ASHBURTON.
A special meeting of the above Council was held at their offices on Saturday afternoon for the purpose of considering how his Excellency the O-overnor should be received on his visit to Ashburton. The Mayor and Crs. Saunders, Ivees, and Friedlander we;a present. After discussion it was resolved to co-operate in the matter with the County Council and the contractor for the Mount Somen railway, and Ore. Ivess, Saunders, and friedlander were appointed a committee to see that the details were properly carried out. The clerk was instructed to write to the contractor for the railway on the subject, and also to Or. Roberts requesting him to construct a triumphal arch in honor of the vice regal visit.
