A letter was read from the Superintendent of Police, asking the Council to furnish the dogs registered to the po'ice every month. The clerk was instructed to fill up the necessary form as requested. A petition was read from residents or Palgrave street, asking that it should be formed and shingled, and offering k> pay a portion of the cost. It was resolved to refer the -writers to the works committee. A letter was read from Messrs T. J. Haling and Co., offering-to supply street plates for the Borough. Beferred to the street earning committee. A letter -was read from Mr P. Cunningham, offering to sell a piece of land at the corner of the South Town belt and the Gasworks road for the snm of i>2so, and offering also to contribute the sum of wß2a towards the cost of widening the road, on condition that the work was properly carried out, and inclodid a covered drain. The letter was referred to the committee previously appointed to consider the subject. A letter was read from Messrs Dobson and Son in reference to the map of the borough, and asking whether -the map ehonld be made according to the plotting or according to figures. The letter was referred t j the works committee, with instructions if they thonght necessary to take .the solicitor's opinion. ■ A letter was read from ' Messrs Joynt and Perceval, stating that they have been instructed by Mr J. A. Hangman to commence an action in the Supreme Court against the Council for damage done to his hotel through accesa to it being taken away by the works that had been done in the Lower Lincoln road. The clerk stated that in accordance with inatructisns from. the Mayor he had forwarded the name of Mr Wynn Williams to Me-srs Joynt and Perceval. The report of the works committee was read. Among other, things it recommended that the attention of the Commissioner of Public Works be drawii to the dangerous state of the Colombo road crossing. The Chairman of the works committee drjw attention to the laxity of the members in their I attendance of "late at the committee meetings. I The Mayer also referred to the laxity of members in not attending Council meetings, and said he , hoped that there would be an improvement in Ohis respect in future. Cr. The report was then adopted as a whole. The finance committee reported the receipts for the fortnight at .£2l i) ; bills to be paid, .£l6B 3s 9d ; and credit at the bank, after payment of that sum, of £2760 10s 2d. The amount of rates outstanding was .£159.

The report was adapted. Cr. Jones brought up the report of the bylaw committee. He stated that the town clerk had been instructed to forward the same to the solicitor for approval. The report was adopted. ■ The Council then adjourned.
