The usual fortnightly meeting of the Road Board of the above district was held at the office on March 6th. Present—Messrs Sledden (chairman), Wilson Fisher, and Sedcole. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Tenders were opened for metalling island road, West Oxford; forming near Mr Cooper's gate, and at crossing of Carlton road with the Oust, and one in each case accepted. The clerk reported having finished putting down the piles at the Oust bridge ; also, the examining the site of the required culvert on the Woodstock road, and stated having made arrangement with T. Mahon for the work, subject to the approval of the Board; also, having arranged with the same party for required cuttings on the same road, opposite Plaskett's mill, which was sanctioned by the Board in both cases. It was resolved that a portion of Sale's road leadiDg to Heyward's mill be formed 20ft wide, and metalled with 15 yards to the chain, subject to the half cost of the work being .'paid by the parties more immediately interested. The clerk reported having passed Johnson's metalling of West Oxford, and that the extra carting would be finished in two or three days ; also, that Quigley and Co's contract would be finished to-morrow ; also, that he had put down a culvert at the bottom of Rainey's gorge road ready for tbe contractor to commence the required work thereon. A letter was received from the Provincial Secretary, inclosing plans and specifications for the erection of emigrants' cottages, and in accordance with instructions accompanying the same, the clerk was instructed to invite tenders for the work ; also, for metalling the Hare wood forest road from Wilkin's to its junction with the Harewood road by Kiccarton. A letter was received from the Provincial Treasurer, stating that 42375 had been lodged to the oredit of tbe Board at the Bank of New Zealand. Accounts to the value of £122 17s 6d were passed and paid. The Board next proceeded to select sites on the reserve near the Road Board office, for the erection of the emigrants' cottages ; thenoe to inspect the route of the proposed drain at West Oxford, and decided that tenders should be invited for the work at an early date.
