PROVINCIAL COUNCIL LIBRARY.
TO THE EDITOE OP THE PRESS. Sir, —It is, I believe, an acknowledged fact that at present in Christchurch there.is a great and pressing want of some library of general information, which might be open to all on payment of an annual subscription. It may not be generally known that within the Government Buildings there is the nucleus of a very good library. At present its use is limited to the august body of our senators and a privileged few. Surely it is but fair that those who have contributed towards its establishment should be enabled to receive some benefit from it ? The library of the Mechanics' Institute is no doubt a very good one, and if the two were combined a very good foundation would be laid for a really good library of books, periodicals and papers. I am, sir, your obedient servant, Ignoramus.
