THE VOLUNTEERS.
FIRING FOR THE RECRUITS' CUP,
The firing for the Recruits' Cup presented by Lieutenant Wolfe of the City Guards, took place yesterday at the Heathcote range. The ranges weer 150, 200.250. and 300 yards, five shots at each range, Hythe position, and regulation targets.
The cup will have to be won twice by the same competitor, before becoming his private property. This cup has proved to be a very great incentive to young recruits to come forward and practice, and we hope to see the officers of other corps following Lieutenant Wolfe's example. The following are the scores:—
* Retired. As will be seen, Private ; Malcolm is the winner of this competition with a score of forty-one. The second competition will take place in a few days.
