♦ THE PROCESSION OF BOATS.

Amongst the most pleasing events connected with the visit of Lady Bowen to Canterbury, the procession of boats on the Avon yesterday may be classed as exceedingly interesting. .The"boating-men of Canterbury mustered very strongly on the occasion, as also did the general public, the banks of the river being lined with spectators. The arrangements made by the marshal (the Rev E. A. Lingard) and tbe other officers of clubs were as follows :—The boats were first marshalled at the boatsheds, the sculling boats and pair oars leading the way. Just below Englefield a flagstaff had beep erected, and also on the opposite side of the river, lifeartheone on the roadside, seats were placed for Lady Bpwen and party upon the high ground overlooking the river, and from which a splendid view of the procession was obtainable. Captain Rose's steam launch waj utilised as the leader of the procession, and under the captaincy of Mr Glassford, led the van most gallantly. Soon after the hour appointed, Lady Bowen, accompanied by his Honor the Superintendent and Mrs Rolleston, Mr and Mrs Studholme, and Messrs Harman, Collins (Nelson), anfi E. C. J.
