TiMABXT—The Herald of April 22nd, reports ;—Very little business has been doing in breadstuffs for the past week, Farmers expect higher prices than those generally offered, and consequently are holding back ; some little wheat has come into town, and we know of one prime lot that brought 4/1. Buyers, though, generally are not inclined to give more than 3/10 for average good samples. Oats range from 1/3 to 2s ; barley from 1/6 to 3/6. The bad harvest weather is already felt by a quantity of grain being offered which buyers absolutely refuse to buy at any price. Flour can be quoted at from £9 to £10 IQs; potatoes from £3 to £3 10s. OAMAKU.—The Times of the 21st reports : —There is a brisk demand for grain, but a reaction is expected in consequence of the recent news from Melbourne and advices from Auckland, which represent that the market is overstocked. Wheat tc-day is at 4/ to 4/2 ; oats, 2/ to 2/2 ; barley, 2/ to 2/6 ; good malting samples would command a higher rate; flour, £12 to £12 10s ; oatmeaL £15 to £16; bran, £3 10s to £4 ; pollard, £4 ; chaff, £3 10s to £4 ; oaten or grass hay, £3 (no demand) ; potatoes, £1 10s to £2. DjDSEDIN— The Daily limes of April 20th reports: —The last day or two business has been remarkably quiet, and probably will remain so until after the home mails via San Francisco have been delivered. The telegraphic advices received seem to have had no influence, and the import markets continue as dull as at the date of last report, furnishing scarcely anything of note. Of the staple goods moving, little cau be said, except that parcels have been almost confined to retail lots, and that prices are, for all important items, without change. In the grain market no great alteration has taken place, but considerable firmness is manifested in prices. A good demand for wheat and oats exists, but the quantities both coming to hand and offering for future delivery have been light, and town transactions have been curtailed. Good grinding wheats are quoted <© 4/6, and parcels of oats are taken up by shippers @ 2/4. Good malting barley is in request, and recent quotations for this item have been, it is reported, advanced upon. There, has been a good enquiry for flour, and millers are quoting rather high rates, viz., #12 In the auction marte a little more has

been doing, but without anything special occurring, either in extent of transactions or in prices.
