LATEST TELEGRAMS. [feom our ovrs coeeespondent.] Wbilinghon, Feb. 19,6.48 p m. The A S N Company and M'Meckan, Black wood, and Co. are the only parties who have tendered for the Melbourne mail service. The decision as to who are the successful tenderers and whether the route is to be changed has not transpired. The Governor has not returned from Wairarapa. The ball at Greytown last night was a success. An inquest on the recovered bodies of those drowned at the wreck of the St Vincent was held yesterday on the spot. Seven more bodies have come ashore, those of the captain, second mate, boatewain, and a boy being the I only ones recognisable. The appointment of a commission on charitable trusts is gazetted — Messrs Domett, Bell, Cooper, Hart, Fishery, and the Native Secretary form the commission gazetted, with from two to four members from each province, and Dr Hector as Chairman. Those for Canterbury are—Dr Haast, Dγ Barker, Mr Qtoddart; for Otago— Messrs Burns and Carrick. Nothing new from Wanganui by to-night's coach. 7 50 p.m. The " Southern Cross" says, in reference to the mail eer vice—-Otago ignores the fact of the existence of a Northern population. The Wellington route is the best if there is to be one service only; but it proposes there should be two —one from Melbourne to the Bluff; another from Melbourne to Auckland. The " Cross" correspondent gives a similar account respecting Te Kooti ac I telegraphed yesterday. The Government had no account. We fear it is true, but hope it is only one of many false rumors.
