August v. The debate, on the address was a very lively one. Several of the new members spoke with good effect.' The Kemar's cargo of Puget Sound timber sold—deals, 4&A to 4£d ; logs, 2s 5d to 2s lOd. The balance of the cargo of sugar, ex Belsize, was offered to-day ; some 500 bags of browns and yellows were sold at a decline on previous rates. The corn market is very dull. August 6 2 [The annual steeplechase is fixed for October 1. August 10. Tim third meeting of the Athletic Club took place on Saturday last, and was attended by a large and fashionable audience. Mrs Colonel Hamley distributed the prizes on the ground. The assay of silver ore from the Scott's Creek Silver Mine is stated to have shown 350 ounces to the ton. The corn market pending farther news is quiet. August 11. The Treasurer has given a notice of motion in the Assembly to amend the Northern Territory Act. He proposes to enlarge the time within which selections of land may be made, and to increase the area allowed to each laud order holder; any holder thereof refusing to agree to these conditions is to have his money returned to him. The question as to the establishment of a Bushmen's Home in Adelaide is being actively taken up by several influential squatters. The annual report of the South Australian Insurance Company is very favorable ; a dividend of 10 per cent, has been declared. There is great excitement about the Scott's Creek Silver Mines, and shares have changed hands at fabulous prices. Mr Walter Montgomery gave his farewell readings at the Town Hall last nights.

The Court for disputed elections have adjudged the return of Messrs Cheritor and Rogers for the electoral district of Mount Barker, null and void, on account of the informal discharge of his duties by the Returning Officer. A new election will take place as soon as possible.
