SOUTHLAND.

The " Southland News " of the 29th ultimo says:— The day has been a perfect blank as regards business. The rain descending in torrents nearly the whole day has prevented oat-door operations. Our streets have been almost deserted. A movement has been originated in Invercargill for the formation of a Commercial Association. The "News" of Thursday states:—"About twenty-five of our citizens, including all the leading men of business, met at the Southland Club Hotel yesterday afternoon for the purpose of forming a Commercial Association for Southland. The chair was occupied by John Blacilock, Esq., and the necessity for such an institution being admitted, a committee of five was appointed to frame rules for the conduct of the association. The meeting was adjourned until Saturday next at the same place."
