BOAT RACING AT LYTTELTON.
A sailing match for open boats took place on Saturday afternoon, and proved to be the beet of the Begatta programme. The boats were started from the red buoy off the head of the Gorernment wharf by the Commodore, J. T. Peacock, Esq., in the waterman's, prize boat, won at the regatta. The coarse ■weefrom the red buoy off the wharf round red buoy off Rhodes , Bay, round the reef, and back to the starting place, twice round, fust prize, £15; second doV£s; third do., £1. Theibßowing boats were entered for this contest, and slatted at 1.43 p.m. .— Aabwoxth's Morning Star Barfs Send Bay> Blue Jacket Captain White's Little lan Gapteht White's Jante Captain ITOyly's Parwian OaptainDanTenVOoantass of SeaSdd. They made a good start. Horning Star taking the lead as though she meant to win., Upon their return pa*t*he Britiah Emnire Blue Jacket was considerably ahead of the Send, followed by Otptain White's boat* Ashworth's Morning Star and D'Oyly's Parisian. Scad presently overhauled Blue Jacket, and Parisian took the lead of Morning Star. caused her twenty minutes delay in rigging another. . This accident to 'the Blue Jacket gave Scud a good lead, and upon returning she passed tno British Empire a long way ahead, at 3 hours 34 minutes; i Captain White's boat second, 14 minutes afterwards ; • Day's Blue Jacket 4 minutes after her, as fresh as , though nothing had befallen her; Morning Star and . Parisian 8 minutes afterwards. In this order they rounded the reef, and Scud was declared the winner ,of the first prize, at 4 hours 19 minutes; Captain White's boat second, about a boat's length before [ Day's Blue Jacket, at 4 hours 31 minutes ; Morning Star fourth, at 4 hours 39 minutes. • The winning boats were received with loud cheers [ from the spectators on the jetty. Most of the boats t had shipped a good deal of water during the race, there being a stiff breeze from the N. E. ' The Regatta Committee have awarded the second I prize in the amateur's race, on the regatta day, to the > Snowdrop, in place of the Planet.
