DIOCESAN SYNOD.

The Bjnod met last night at half-past six at the Masonic HalL The Lord Bishop of the diocese in the chair. .Present—The Revs. Henry Jacobs, J. C. Bagshaw, C. Bowen, W. C. Fearon, H. Torlesse, G. Cotterffl, F. Knowles, B- W. Dudley, F. Moore, and J. Wilson. Of the laity —Messrs. Pavitt, Davie, Jtcfaon, Lane, Barker, Cunningham, Thompson, and Ayntley. Prayers having been read, the Clerical Secretary stated that he had received an intimation from Mr. G.Boss that he would be unable for the fature to attend the meetings of the Synod, and proposed that Mr. Lane be elected as lay secretary. Theproposal having been seconded by Mr. Pavitt and carried, Mr. Lane read the minutes of the last meeting, which were confirmed. The Her. G. CottenU laid upon the table the Diocesan Account*, ending 31st March, 1864. Mr. Wilson then moved the resolutions contained in the report to the Committee on the answer of the Metropolitan to the memorial of the Standing Committee. (1.) The Synod of Christchurch having had under ita consideration the answer of the Metropolitan to the memorial of the Standing Committee, and having renewed the position taken by this Synod in former iMsioni. wet no reason for withdrawing or modifying A* denands thus made. His Lordship then addressed the Synod as follows:—The Bishop [is unable to give his MMBt to the resolutions founded on the report of the committee appointed to take into consideration the reply of the Metropolitan to the memorial of the Standing Committee, praying for the immediate eaUiag of the General Synod. He will, however, fiirward to the Standing Commission, and to the aembers of all the Synods of the Ecclesiastical province, the reaolutaons founded on tbisreport which my have been assented to by the clergy and laity of ttts Synod, and he desires to add that he shall adhere to the declaration which he made at the last session of the Synod, viz., that if at the next meeting of the Qoneral Synod no alteration in the deed of constitution be added, under which the relations now subsisting between the General Synod and the Synod of Cbristchurch can be satisfactorily maintained, the Bishop will join with the clergy and laity of the djocese, and with their representatives in the General Sjmod, in ao application to that body to be released horn the compact under which this diocese is now —sociited with it. The Synod then adjourned till Monday erening at half-past six.
