CHRISTCHURCH.

During the week several burglaries have been committed in Christchurch: on Monday morning MrBarnard's office was broken open, and notes and gold to the valuo of £200, besides some cheques, were , taken. On Wednesday night Miss Skillicorn's house in Colombo street was broken into, and the cash box which was empty, was forced open ; the same night the burglars attempted to enter Mr. Asmusson's shop, but were deterred by the barking of a dog inside the house. We understand that the night patrol of police at present consists of only two men.

In our report of the Christ's College examinations last week, the IV. Form prizes were omitted, and the 111. Form prizes put in their place by mistake. The IV. Form prizes are as follows : —

Markets.—fn wheat there have been no transactions whatever this week ; the earn pies offered wore all soft and unfit for exportation. Oats have beou selling at 3s. to 3s. 6d.; carrots and mangolds (on the ground) at £2 10s per ton; potatoes from to£4 per ton. The price of meat remains unaltered. The following land sales have been effected during .the past fortnight. June 24th : —22 acres, J. Raven, Mandeville district; 20 acres, J. Smith, do; 100 acres, J. Washbourne. Biver Selwyn; 60 acres, G. Gould, do; 50 acres, W. L Bullor, Ashley district} 60 acres, J. Deans and Brittan, Malvern Hills. July 1st:—1000 acres, Carter and Pauli, on the Kowai, near Double Corner. The total amount of land sold in the month of June wae 819 acres, as against 1947 acres in May last.
