THREE COMPETITIONS ARE DECIDED With the exception of the women’s A grade all Central Bay of Plenty hockey competitions for the 1950 season were concluded last week-end.

The A grade men’s competition for the Bridgers Shield was won by Riverslea (Edgecumbe Club) and the B grade was won by Stars (Otakiri Club). Paroa were the winners of the women’s B grade. In the women’s A grade Te Teko are one point in the lead of Poroporo, each team having one more game to play. The Te Teko game will be played after the knockout tournament on Sunday if time permits and the result of that game should decide the competition winners. The competitions this season were keenly contested. In both men’s grade competition the winning teams were considerably stronger than their opposing sides but in the women’s grades both competitions proved very interesting, with several teams in the running until the final game. The following are the points for the competition games:—

A grade, Marx Cup: Women: (1 game to go) Te Teko 21, Poroporo 20, Rovers 11, Matata 11, Apanui 6, Awakeri 1. Men, Bridgers Shield: Riverslea 19, Rovers 14, Awakeri 9, Poroporo 9, Apanui 12, Whakatane 2.

B grade: Women: Paroa 24, Poroporo 23, Huimai 21, Taneatua 13, Onepu 17, Otakiri Stars 6, Otakiri Blues 4, Te Teko 5. Men, Otakiri Stars 21, Taneatua 14, Rangers 12, Blues 6, Huimai 5, Whakatane 4, Te Teko 10.
