E. Welch Makes All Black Trial Games
A Whakatane Sub-Union player, E. Welch, Taneatua, is one of the two Bay of Plenty players to be chosen to take part in the Rugby trial matches to be held at Wellington on Tuesday. The other player is W. Trotman, Tauranga, a front row forward. Welch "will play fullback.
Altogether six players were nominated by the Bay of Plenty Union for selection but only two were chosen. The other unsuccessful four were H. Ranapia (Whakatane) lock forward, S. McLaughlin (Opotiki) lock forward, L. Raureti (Rotorua) half back and F. Martin (Rotorua) wing. From the trials an All Black team is to be selected to meet the touring British Isles team in the, first Test at Dunedin on May 27.
