Hospital Day At Otakiri W.I.
The attendance at the October meeting of the Otakiri W.X, was splendid. Mrs Carr presided. A new member, Mrs C. Hallett, was welcomed to the institute.
Arrangements for the bi-annual Council meeting to be held this year at Otakiri were fully discussed. Two very interesting reports from the Federation President, Mrs McCallion, were read, giving a full report of institute activities in the last few months. Mrs McCallion spoke very highly of the work and cooperation going on among all institutes.
Two delegates, Mesdames Carr and Peck, were appointed to attend a meeting of the women’s committee of the A. and P. Association to be held at Whakatane next Friday. A demonstration given by Mrs McQueen, on the making of feather roses, and floral telephone baskets proved very interesting and some very novel ideas were gained in this artistic work. As it was hospital day, a good selection of books and magazines were brought in for hospital use. Shortbread and coffee sponges also were given to the hospital.
Competition results for the day were:—
Vegetable, Mrs Peck 1, Mrs W. Mayo 2, Mrs Winters 3. Single flower, Miss J. Murray 1, Mrs Mayo 2, Mrs Steenson 3. Double flower, Miss Murray 1, Mrs W. Murray 2, Mrs J. Murray 3.
