Hollis got one. The game wa s very fa>t from start to finish, and although Ahuwhenua were continually in the Whakatane twenty-five for the last' five minutes, the sound defensive tactics of the Whakatane backs kept them out. GOOD PLAYERS It Avas a sound move on the part of Free, Whakatane's captain to place Nuku in the halves from the forward line. This young player provided thrills for the spectators with his unerring skill in hitting the ball in mid.air thereby feeding the forwards . Bridger wag another back who play ed an excellent game. He is one of the old school aind his individual characteristics of play are still apparent. especially when the opposing forwards are threatening his twentyfive. Inclined towards small stature he is not noticed in the team until a ruck comes a,bout a ( nd then he is observed with a flashing run, head down knees almost touching his chin, going through with the ball at hisi stick. Another 1 halfback who played a sound game was Doug McKenzie, who recovered the ball again and again and centred with monotonous ease. Under the capable control of the referee, B. the game was thoroughly enjoyed by both teams. The Whaaktane team takes its hat off to the splendid sportsmanship and camaraderie of the Ahuwhenua team and pays tribute to the line leadership of J. Riini their captain.
