CANCER SCOURGE

» Sir,—The Mayor of Auckland has ** just been here arranging for the collection of money to be used in cancer research. Now in Whakatane and its surrounding townships (Taneatua, Matata, Te Teko) we are living in ai fool's paradise—we have no meat inspection and we have no abattoirs. The population of all would be close on four thousand, quite a large number to be in avoidable danger. It beats me that the Health Depart. \ . ment (it has an officer here) should V allow such a state of affairs to exist. We should have had meat inspection and abattoirs years ago. The medical faculty stress the danger of the consumption of meat from a cancerous animal. Cancer is the greatest of human scourges, let us do all we can ia every way, to prevent it. Yours etG^ GRAVE DANGER.
