OBITUARY
o MR WALTER REID'S DEATH LIFE OF SERVICE It is with the greatest regret that we record the closing of a life of service to the Whakatane district in the death of Mr Walter Reid at the age of 72 years, after some months of Illness at his home at Taneatua on Saturday night. Mr Reid's record of public service was so great and so well-known that it is hardly necessary to recapitulate it. He was a loading figure in county affairs and was chairman of the Whakatane County Council for many years and a member at the time of his death. As chairman of the Opouriao Dairy Company he did much to promote the -J development *of the Opouriao and ; Ruatoki districts, and to him credit is due for the success of the company's operations. Popular among farmers and townspeople, Maori and Pakeha, Mr Reid will be greatly missed. He is to be buried to-day at 1 o'clock in the Whakatame cemetery A full obituary notice will appear in Wednesday's issue.
