OUT AND ABOUT
Further Collection Of Books A further loan of 100 books has been received from the National Library Service for the Children’s Library in Tauranga. There are fiction and non-fiction books which will appeal to young people of all ages. All the books are new, many of them being outstanding American publications which are almost impossible to obtain in New Zealand. The special feature of the American books is the coloured pictures which appear in nearly every book. This new collection now replaces the previous one which the library has had for the past four months. Elephant Next Week? The Monowai due at Wellington next Tuesday, is expected to carry as one of its passengers the new female elephant for the Wellington Zoo. It is at present at Taronga Park Zoo, on the shores of Sydney harbour. Her keeper, Mr E. Scott, of Wellington, is known to be anxious to get the elephant to New Zealand as early as possible, but he has not definitely advised that she will be shipped by the Monowai. However, this will be the first visit of the Monowai to Wellington since the elephant’s arrival date was put back through the necessity of having to comply with New South Wales quarantine requirements.
