CONFIDENCE MEN SENTENCED

(P.A.) Wellington, Oct. 28. “The Crown Prosecutor says it is a classic example of the work of a confidence man. I think he is right,” said the Chie" Justice, Sir Humphrey O’Learv, to William John McCrea, aged 47, painter, who apneared for sentence with William McDermott, aged 22, seaman. Both had been found guilty of false pretences involving £SOO, the property cf Roy Maurice O'dridge, a Paremata storekeeper. His Honor commented that McDermott had been brought into the scheme toward the end. McCrea was sentenced to two years’ hard labour and McDermott to nine months’ hard labour.
