Athletic Season Opens On November 12

Decision Of Mt. Maunganui Committee Officials For Meetings Appointed A decision to open the new season on Saturday, November 12, when invitations to compete will be extended to Tauranga, Te Puke and Katikati club members was made at a committee meeting of *he Mount Maunganui Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club. In connection with opening day, Mrs Boyd and Messrs Carlton, Higgins and Cochrane were appointed to arrange a- programme and procure suitable trophies. The for owing officials to operate at the weekly Tuesday meetings of the club were appointed: Starter, Mr J. Carlton; assistant starter, Mr J. Barber; judges, Mrs Chadban and Mr F. Cochrane, with power to add; timekeepers, Messrs C. A. Newrick and R. E. C. Hampton; handicappers, Messrs F. Bell (cycling) and G. E. Hutton (athletics); stewards, Messrs A. Wright and N. Hastings; announcer, Mr N. Hastings; referee, Mr A. Wright. Selectors for Waikato championship meetings, Messrs F. Bell and G. E. Hutton. Team managers are to be appointed at a later date. The committee decided to approach other sporting clubs to assist with the purchase of two rows of seats 50 feet long at Coronation Park.
